The Theory of Facework and Nonverbal Communication Between Cultures
In a communication theories course at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, I wrote a detailed essay applying the theory of facework to nonverbal communication between different cultures. The purpose of the assignment was to write an intensive paper dedicated to applying a certain theory to a topic of choice. The topic that was chosen was partially due to the time that I spent in New Zealand and the types of nonverbal communication that I experienced there. My interest was based on the concept that people from one culture can tell solely based on nonverbal communication that they might belong to a different culture. This essay was the end result of two prior essays that helped narrow down both the topic and theory that were chosen.
Over the course of the semester, extensive research and writing multiple drafts contributed to the completion of this essay. Through this assignment and the class, I gained valuable experience in proper format and citation of an academic essay as well as the ability to find academic research and peer reviewed studies.
