Sexism in US Politics: An Ideological Criticism of the 2016 Presidential Election

While studying at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, I took a class called Communication Criticism, which focused entirely on the methods of rhetoric and critical studies. In this class, we were required to write an essay in the style of different types of rhetorical criticism. Therefore, I decided to take on the complex task of dissecting sexism in the 2016 presidential election from the standpoint of ideological criticism. This essay and this course were difficult for me, as I had never before taken an advocacy class.

Through the result of the paper and the rest of the course, I learned how to frame certain social situations and ideologies through different perspectives. I learned that the way that society talks about certain issues often is the reason that they’re prevalent in the first place. This essay also contributed to my public speaking skills, as I had to exhibit my findings to the class in a formal presentation.
