Vocal Jazz and Creativity

While I was studying abroad at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand, I took a class called Contemporary Musicology. Throughout the class, I was required to complete only two essays, the second of which was 60% of my final grade. Since my courses were a part of the College of Creativity, all of the academic work that was written had to be novel in some way. Therefore, the task at hand was to write an essay describing the relationship of creativity with an experience of music from my own life. Taking my learned knowledge of creativity as it applies to music and along with extensive research on both creativity and my topic, I wrote an essay describing the complex relationship between the genre of vocal jazz and the many forms of creativity.

Through this assignment as well as my time at Massey University in New Zealand, I learned how to approach problems through the frame of creativity. This has allowed me to expand my worldview and look at tasks at hand from a unique perspective.
